Our mission is to illuminate themes that connect us as geoscientists, celebrate our diversity, and shape the way we look at ourselves as a collective group of scientists. In the processes of fulfilling our mission, we at times need to collect and process personal information. The transverse RANGES project (referred to herein as "transverse RANGES", "tR", "we", "our") developed this policy to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy and protection of personal data. Please review it carefully and contact us at hello@transverseranges.com if you have questions or concerns. We are a very small staff, so please reach out to us so we can rectify any issues you may have. Your comfort and satisfaction is important to us.
If you do not agree to the Privacy Policy, please refrain from accessing this website.
This privacy policy applies to data collected through our website.
Collection of Personal Data
In order to provide you with our website, we collect and process voluntary personal data from our subscribers (detailed below), and involuntary data when you visit our site (detailed below).
Information You Directly and Voluntarily Provide Us
Newsletter: you may subscribe to our newsletter for no charge by providing your name (optional) and/or email address. This information is used to send the newsletter to you and communicate about the transverse RANGES project. You may unsubscribe at any time by selecting the unsubscribe option at the bottom of the newsletter.
Information We Automatically Collect From You
We analyze traffic to this site. We collect statistical data on an aggregated basis. For example, we collect information about the domain names of servers that bring visitors to our site, and we count the number of visitors and keep track of where they go on our site. Such information allows us to find out what pages visitors visit most frequently. To gather such data, we use "cookie" technology, which are small amounts of data that are stored within your computer's Internet browser and that are accessed and recorded by the websites that you visit so that they can recognize the same browser navigating online at a later time. We use Google Analytics to collect this data with IP Anonymization in place. IP Anonymization sets the last 3 digits of IPv4 user IP addresses and the last 80 bits of IPv6 addresses to zero in memory shortly after being sent to the Analytics Collection Network. The full IP address is never written to disk in this case. As a result, your geographic location is less precise. For example, transverse RANGES is physically located in Altadena, California, but with IP Anonymization, if we were to visit our own website, our geographic location is recorded as Los Angeles, California.
Sharing and Disclosing to Third Parties
Our interest is in community building, trust, equity, and advocacy. We DO NOT under any circumstances share your information with third parties.
Data Retention
Personal Data (names and/or email addresses) may be retained by transverse RANGES for so long as necessary or useful to pursue the legitimate interests of tR. You can always unsubscribe from our newsletter, at which time, your data will be deleted.
Links to Other Sites
Our site contains links to other sites and Internet resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these other websites and Internet resources.
Your Individual Rights Regarding Personal Data
If you would like to review, correct, or update the Personal Data you have provided to us, please contact us at hello@transverserange.com. If you choose, you may request to delete your account with us (be forgotten).
Updates to this Privacy Policy
We may update these privacy policies periodically, and we encourage visitors to review them on a regular basis. Whenever there are changes, the modified policies will be posted on our website and will be effective at that time.
